A Happy Matt Salisbury!
02 October 2020Durham County Cricket Club have announced that Shenfield’s Matthew Salisbury has signed a two year contract extension, keeping him at the club until 2022.
Matt joined Durham in May 2018 and featured in every Durham first class and one day game until May 2019 when injury brought his unbroken run to an end. Although available again by late August his appearances since then have been less frequent, but he featured in three of the County’s Bob Willis Trophy games in the Covid-shortened 2020 season.
After his first season he was awarded Durham’s Breakthrough Player of Year trophy, having taken 44 first class wickets including the prize scalps of former international stars Ian Bell and Jonathan Trott.
Matt has now taken 95 career first class wickets at an average of 31.07 and a strike rate of 51.72. His best first class bowling performance is 6-37 against Middlesex at Chester-le-Street. Formerly of Essex and Hampshire, he now seems settled at Durham so, sadly, an imminent appearance in Shenfield colours appears unlikely!
