Shenfield were at home for their second group stage U16 Trevor Bailey Matchplay fixture on Sunday (11.07.21) facing a strong Woodford Wells.
Put into bat first, SCC lost two quick wickets before Freddie Thorne was caught after hitting 30 off 21 balls. Max Toolan was the backbone of the innings finishing the 40 overs on an unbeaten 48 helping to build partnerships with both Dillon Small (24) and Adam Pryor (22n.o) to give Woodford Wells 200 to chase.
In the field SCC got off to a good start with their opponents 4 wickets down at 35 runs, however a middle order partnership saw Woodford Wells back in the game before some excellent bowling – Tom Arnold (8-19-5), James MacCullum (3-13-2), Adam Pryor (8-49-3) and Max Toolan (7-14-0) coupled with some hard work in the field saw them fall short at 173.
The final group game is at Colchester and East Essex CC on the 25th July.
