Under 11s selected for District Match
Five Shenfield U11s were selected for the District match against the North Essex District on Wednesday July 30th. Unfortunately laryngitis prevented captain George Meaney from playing, but Ben Mann, Ben Loader, George Ballington and Oliver Castell all contributed to a thrilling 1 wicket victory. Ben Loader kept for 35 overs without conceding a bye and then scored the winning runs to maintain the District’s 2 year winning run. Enjoy the photos of our young superstars.

Under 16s. Monday 4th August
Your support is needed here too! Our Under 16s are in the Matchplay Quarter-Final, playing against South Woodford on Monday 4th August, 1pm start, normal 40 over format. Two more wins would see them in the Final at the County Ground, Chelmsford, in September.
The venue is:

Highfield Road

The lads would be pleased to have the support of anyone who is free that day. - 31st July 2008

Twenty20. Thursday, 7th August
Your support is needed! This year's competition is getting down to the business end and following success over the last couple of seasons, Shenfield are still involved this year at the quarter final stage. We play Hornchurch away next Thursday, 7th August, 5:30pm start, for a place in Finals Day.
The venue is:
Harrow Lodge Park
Hornchurch Road
Hornchurch
Hornchurch have also previously had success in this competition and enter fully into Twenty20 spirit by laying on a DJ, BBQ and all the other razzmatazz that goes with Twenty20. They will have a big crowd, so we need to match them and give the Shenners boys plenty of support! - 31st July 2008

President's Day Sunday 31st August
President's Day will take place as planned despite the sad loss of our President John Burrows. Roger and Nicola will be hosting the day and have extended an open invitation to all Club members and their families. Let's hope the weather is kind and the cricket is of a calibre appropriate to bring the curtain down on John's 30 years as President of the Club.

St Helier's (Pear Cider)
Our generous sponsors assembled a team to play against a club side yesterday. Thanks to John Hibberd and his wife Sandra, it was a really super afternoon despite the blistering heat. The refreshing Pear Cider was indeed most welcome! As for the actual cricket, here is a report.

Under 16 Matchplay
Congratulations to the U16s on another magnificent win last Sunday, against Springfield. Springfield 179 all out, Shenfield 180-1.
They are now second in Group 2 on run rate to Hadleigh and the next game is away against Hadleigh on Sunday 13th July, so all to play for. Andy Ross has now scored an amazing 325 runs in the competition, at an average of 108.3.
The top two in Group 2 go through to play the top two in Group 1 (looking like South Woodford and Wanstead) in the quarter finals. - 30th June 2008

Our President
It is with great sadness that we have to report that John Burrows passed away yesterday evening. He had been in ill-health for quite some time, not that you would have known it from his demeanour, as he always made light of his problems. Our hearts go out to his son, Roger, daughter, Nicola and their families. Details of the funeral arrangements will be published here when known.
On Saturday, as a mark of respect and affection, there will be a one minute silence prior to all three games and the players will wear black armbands.
Take a look at this page to share in happy memories of John. - 11th June 2008

Cresta Run
Richard Hindley will be doing it! Modest as ever, he has not sought this publicity, but his Mum has! Richard and Sean Emmett are heading to St. Moritz on the 23rd January for the ultimate ride on a 'tea tray' down a steep ice run known as The Cresta Run.
The Cresta Run was first built in 1887 and has been rebuilt from scratch every year since. From top to bottom, the drop is 514 feet and the gradient varies from 1 in 2.8 to 1 in 8.7 as the course winds its way through 10 named corners, including the famous Shuttlecock bend where, over the years, many riders have come off. The only way down is head-first on a skeleton toboggan - at top speeds of around 80 mph! Riders have completed the whole 1.2 kilometre course in less than 60 seconds.
Richard and Sean are funding the trip themselves, but thought it a fantastic opportunity to raise funds for Breast Cancer Research.
Therefore, all donations would be gratefully received at the just giving web site or in the pink box on the bar at the Eagle and Child Public House, Tabors Corner, Shenfield.
Here's a link to You Tube which gives a pretty good overview of the Cresta Run.
Best of luck, guys!
