Anne Robinson
We were very sorry to hear that Anne has passed away. Older members of the club will remember her and
her husband, Keith, who was a popular SCC Sunday captain from 1963 – 1973, and their son, Max, a keen
player. Our sincere condolences to Max and the rest of the family.
There is a
photo on the website of Anne and Keith together.

Matt Salisbury
Congratulations to Matt who has been offered, and has accepted, a two year contract with Essex CCC
commencing 1st October 2013.
Matt is the first Shenfield player to be signed up by Essex. He has come up through the ranks, starting in
our Colts section, then our Senior 3rd XI from 2005 when he was only twelve! He has played for the 1st XI
for the last six years.
He is currently in his final year at University, so won't be able to join the squad for all their pre-season
activities, and will no doubt continue to train with Cambridge MCCU during the winter and play for them
during the early season 2014.
He has not yet been selected for the Essex 1st XI although he was 12th man at their games at the Ageas Bowl
and the Bristol County Ground late in the 2013 season. He featured in the majority of Essex 2nd XI games in
2013, bowling 160 overs and taking 24 Championship wickets at an average of 21.62. A first XI debut remains
a major target for next season.

Michael Wright
In recognition of his County Lifetime Acheiver award, Michael was invited to attend the NatWest
National OSCAs which were held yesterday at Lord's. The event was hosted by Jonathan Agnew and was attended
by numerous cricketing legends, so he had a very interesting, enjoyable time and it closed with
entertainment by the Duckworth Lewis method band!
Unfortunately, there are no photos from yesterday, but there are from the
recent OSCAs event at the County Ground.

The U15s however, went one better to beat Hutton and in doing so complete the League + Cup double. Mann top

It was not to be
Yesterday was crunch day, with the possibility of the 1st XI winning the Championship if they beat
Wanstead. It started well, with Stuart Borman and Martin Spicer providing the team with a full English
breakfast prior to departure - thanks, chaps! Shenfield won the toss and elected to bat, but never recovered
from losing a wicket first ball of the innings and were out for a disappointing 95 in only 26 overs.
Wanstead, despite losing an early wicket easily reached the target in 27 overs. Congratulations to Wanstead,
who proved to be far superior on the day.
A sad day for Jack Kliber and his team, but they are to be congratulated on a generally excellent season,
maintaining 3rd position.

to:

History in the Making?
What a climax to the season the last 1st XI match v Wanstead will be - probably the most important game
in Shenfield's history. The winning team will be 2013 Champions of the 1st XI Premier Division of the
Shepherd Neame Essex League.
Match commences 11.45 at Wanstead. This is a 50 over match, therefore no chance of a draw.
Please come and support Jack Kliber and his team.

Peter Rider
Our youngest evergreen Life Vice President (his words!), Peter Rider, captained a victorious Essex 50+
team to a 5 wicket semi– final win at Southampton on Sunday, bringing their tally to 9 wins from 10.
The National final of the English County Championship knock-out is to take place at the ECB centre,
Kibworth, Leicestershire on Sunday 8th September. 11.00 start.
Essex take on Durham, and knowing how competitive our former long term captain is there’s a fair chance that
another trophy will be added to the cabinet. All spectators welcome.

Message to the Colts from Adam Knapp
As the U16s manager, the
match against Hutton was
my last competitive game in charge of a colts team. Some of the lads have played for me since U9s. I’d like
to thank ALL the boys that have played for my teams over the years, some of which won the U13 and 15B league
titles, on both occasions undefeated!
It has been a privilege to have been involved with your cricket - thank you!

Congratulations to Michael Wright
Our President, Ground Manager, League Delegate and 1st XI Scorer - no longer an unsung hero now that he
has been selected by the ECCB as a county winner in the Lifetime Achiever category and his name has been put
forward for consideration for a National Award in the same category.
He has been at Shenfield CC for over 60 years, starting as scorer, (resuming that job when he stopped
playing) and has, for decades, been Ground Manager and League Delegate. His very many years as a player
don’t count towards the award!
Michael’s “rewards” are a day at the County Ground to see Essex v Glamorgan and receive his certificate,
also attendance at the NatWest OSCAs event to be hold at Lord’s Cricket Ground, both In September.

Shenfield School U17 Cricket Team
Congratulations to them on beating mighty Dulwich College to reach the last eight of the National
Under-17 40-over tournament. Shenfield remain the only state school left in the competition and registered a
major landmark in beating the London school. Six of the team are also Shenfield CC players and the match was
actually played at Shenfield CC. The achievement was such that there was an article in The Telegraph.
