Congratulations to and thanks from Shenfield High School
Garry Sapsford says Shenfield High School is very grateful to Shenfield CC for hosting 3 Essex Schools
Cricket finals this September. Shenfield High made each of these finals,
winning the U19 final
on the last ball v Newham College. SCC youngsters Alex Rickenbach, George Pratt and Haris Mahmood were
fundamental to the dramatic win with 5 SCC players in total representing the school.
The U13 girls finalwas a local derby between Shenfield and St
Martins with SHS winning by 30 runs with SCC's Imogen Southcott awarded Player of the Match. These Shenfield
girls were also crowned National Schools Champions at Wormsley CC this week in a remarkable few days for the
school's cricket teams.
The last Essex Schools final will feature Shenfield's U15 girls against St Angela's on Monday,22nd. Good
luck in completing a county treble girls!

Congratulations to the Under 9s who won the play offs today beating Bentley and then Hutton in the final
The lads deserve to look so happy!
Here's what spectator Allan Salisbury had to say about the final - "It was a joy to watch. The Shenfield
team were a cut above the opposition and deservedly won the trophy. Hutton were outplayed with bat and ball.
Whilst in the field our boys were thoroughly focused on the game, backed up each other, caught well, threw
well and hit the stumps two or three times to run-out the opposition batsmen. Just to see boys of that age
walking in whilst fielding, watching and concentrating on the game and being alert to every game situation
is very pleasing. They looked a really good team.
Our bowlers and fielders took wickets at regular intervals, stifling any opportunity for Hutton to build a
total. When batting, our upper order in particular hit some fine shots, including several to the boundary.
Gary Griffin and team have obviously got the players very well drilled: they are a credit to him and to the
club. Also bearing in mind that several of the boys are only u8s the future looks rosy for Shenfield colts!
I thoroughly enjoyed my morning and was very proud to support our young players."

both teams.
Your support at Bentley would be much welcomed.

Shenfield’s longest serving Tea Lady passes away
It is with great sadness that we have to say goodbye to Mary Hindley who passed away yesterday, age 70.
The funeral service has been arranged for 2.00pm on Wednesday 23rd July at St Mary’s Church, Shenfield.
Family flowers only. Donations welcomed to MacMillan Nurses, British Heart Foundation, or Cancer Research.
Mary will be greatly missed but happily remembered, for she was never seen without a smile on her face, just
as in
this photo. Our sincerest condolences to Bill, husband of
42 years, sons Michael & Richard and family.
Mary prepared and made teas from an early age. First helping her mum make teas for her husband Joe when he
played for the 2nd XI. She then progressed to being in charge for her husband Bill’s time, also for the 2nd
XI. It was only last year when she returned to being an assistant for Michelle to help out Michael.
Mary still visited the home games when her boys where playing.
There was very much more to Mary than SCC tea lady:
- The Royal British Legion awarded the 45 year bar to her service medal for selling poppies and
organising collectors in the Shenfield & Hutton area every year.
- For 55 years she sang in the St Mary’s church choir.
- She was a staunch member of Shenfield Green WI and took on the role of secretary in 2013 and ended
up being treasurer as well.
- In 2009 she was awarded the Silver Acorn for outstanding services to Scouting. She supported Bill
for decades in his scouting ventures and at Thriftwood took on the roles of Booking Secretary,
Catering Manager and Tuckshop Manager.

Senior nets
1st team skipper Jack Kliber has organized a net on Mondays at Writtle, 9 to 10pm, starting on Jan
20th. Likely to feature some of the clubs stronger cricketers. Text Jack on 07837 968326 if you are
interested in attending.
If netting with 1st and 2nd teamers does not appeal then we also have a net at Writtle on Sundays from 5 to
6pm. This features some 3rd, 4th and 5th teamers as well as some U16s. Spaces are strictly limited so please
email
david.castell@thomsonreuters.com
And a 3rd option is a net on Fridays from 9 to 10pm, also at Writtle. This contains a mix of folks from
Shenfield, Harold Wood, Brookweald and East Hanningfield. A rehydration in the pub after this one is not
compulsory, but is strongly encouraged. Again, contact
david.castell@thomsonreuters.com
if you are interested in this.

Colts/Foals winter training
Training for U6/U7s starts on Friday Feb 28th at the St Martins Sports Hall, 6 to 7pm. Only 2 places
remain for this popular 5 week course.
There was insufficient demand for a full course for U8/U9s but we are looking at options. Watch this space.
U10 to U13 nets are running on a Sunday from 4 to 5pm at Writtle. U14/15 nets follow from 5 to 6pm. A small
number of spaces remain on a few dates.
See senior nets for U16s and above.

interested.
