A week is a long time in cricket club selection and with 8 changes from last week’s demolition of Woodford wells, Shenfield welcomed an experienced Chelmsford side to the Courage playing field and a deputising Garry Sapsford asked his young XI to bat having lost the toss.
Tredget having become something of a liability now plagued with injury promptly ran partner George Morgan (3) out in the third over, he (14) and Harry White (0) put up little resistance before Robert Deverill (10) and Garry Sapsford (48) added an air of respectability to the innings, Shenfield were asking a little too much of the six youngsters ( Judd, Sapsford, MacCullum, Kirby, Holland, Cockerell) that followed however and only 13 more runs were added between them before a fine bowling performance by Chelmsford’s only under 18, Jack Parrish brought an end to proceedings for 110.
Jamie Kirby and Josh Judd got themselves a wicket a piece and Ollie Cockerell bowled well in tough conditions, but ultimately the total was reached with little effort in the 22nd over and Shenfield’s patchwork quilt of a side were back in the bar before Henry Austin had heard Sam Fender’s support act play a single note.
The result allowed Chelmsford to leapfrog Sapsford’s men in the table and with the top three sides (Upminster, Wanstead, Harlow ) to play in the next 3 weeks Shenfield will need to improve to make these games genuinely competitive. #UpTheShen
